AJ leads energy research for Gavekal Technologies, covering China’s innovation ecosystem and implications for global markets. He previously advised US multinationals on bilateral technology and export control issues at the US-China Business Council (USCBC). Before USCBC, he led technology research at MacroPolo, the former think tank of the Paulson Institute, analyzing China’s strategic priorities, industrial policy, and the innovation ecosystem’s shift toward deep tech and self-reliance.
He is also an alumni fellow of the Penn Project on the Future of US-China Relations. Earlier in his career, AJ worked in Beijing as an analyst researching technology companies and investment trends in China. Based in Washington, DC, he is a graduate of Fordham University and is pursuing an MBA from the University of Chicago.
